1892 Mexico "Cap and Rays" 8 Reales Silver Coin - "Eagle Trade Dollar" (90.3% Silver)

Minted extensively from 1824 to 1897 across hundreds of year and mintmark varieties, this classic trade coin has a face value of 8 Reales. It weighs 27.07 grams, measures 38.9 mm in diameter, and has a thickness of 2.7 mm.

The obverse features the iconic Mexican coat of arms: a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake. The reverse displays the radiant Liberty cap ("Phrygian cap") emitting sunrays, surrounded by the legend, mint location, date, assayers' initials, and fineness noted as 10 Dineros 20 Granos (equivalent to 90.3% silver). The edge features an ornate, floral security milled design.

During the late Qing dynasty, this type of silver coin served as one of the most widely circulated and trusted foreign trade silver dollars in China. The 1892 issue belongs to the earlier "small cap," long-ray variety with eleven rays below the cap and decorated edge lettering, distinct from the later straight-edged "large cap" variants introduced after 1898.

The item offered for sale displays a dark smudge on the lower-left portion of the obverse and a small chopmark beneath the eagle's right wing, while retaining strong, prominent original mint luster overall.
