The Australian government issued this silver coin, which is half a troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver with a face value of five cents. It has a certificate number 04910 and a mintage of 10,000 pieces.
The obverse of the coin features the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, with information on the face value, weight, and purity displayed above.
On the reverse side of the coin, there is a colorized baby possum with Australian bush flowers designed by Elise Martinson.
The possum is a small to medium-sized marsupial native to Australia. Typically nocturnal and preferring to sleep during the day, they nest high up in trees. Like kangaroos, female possums carry their young in a pouch. Possums are protected by Australian law and are significant animals in Australian culture and folklore.
