1992-20 China Stamp: Constitution of the People's Republic of China

Issued on December 4, 1992, this Chinese stamp is numbered 1992-20, part of a set with a single stamp valued at 20 fen. The new stamp is without any yellowing.

In the center of the image is the cover of the "Constitution of the People's Republic of China", set against a background transitioning from yellow, green, blue to purple. A pair of golden phoenixes fly from east to west and west to east around the "Constitution" on the upper and lower parts. In Chinese ancient mythology, phoenixes are described as divine birds that "eat and drink naturally, sing and dance on their own, and bring peace to the world" (from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas"). They are imagined as protective gods, auspicious birds that bring peace and happiness.
