The "Charming China" series by Hongkong Post showcases the diverse landscapes and cultural heritage of China, ranging from natural landscapes to historical sites. The sixth sheet in the series highlights the Stone Forest in Kunming, Yunnan.
The Stone Forest possesses unique karst topography and is considered the ancestral home of the Yi ethnic group's legendary figure, Ashima. Over 270 million years of wind and water erosion have shaped the magnificent landscape, covering an area of 350 square kilometers. It features towering stone peaks, beautiful lakes, mysterious caves, and spectacular waterfalls, creating a breathtaking sight. Among the various scenic spots, the Small Stone Forest and Naigu Stone Forest are the most renowned. The iconic stone peak known as "Ashima" is said to be the incarnation of the legendary figure and is a must-visit attraction for tourists.
In 1982, the Stone Forest was designated as a National Key Scenic Area, and in 2004, it was listed as one of the first World Geoparks by UNESCO.
The small sheet features a blue sky and white clouds as the background. On the left side is the inscription "Stone Forest Scenery," and on the right side is an image of majestic peaks surrounded by lush greenery. The highlighted attraction on the stamp is called "A Hair's Breadth," depicting precarious giant rocks that seem to be on the verge of toppling over.
