Japanese Military Currency 5 dollars 51 notes (F condition)

There are a total of 51 Japanese military currency notes of five yen being sold this time, which were previously circulated, showing signs of wear with multiple folds, assessed as in Fair condition (F).

A brief history of the military currency:

After the fall of Hong Kong to the Japanese forces in December 1941, Japanese military currency was declared as the circulating currency in Hong Kong.

Starting from June 1943, the Japanese military authorities decreed that military currency was the only legal tender in Hong Kong, prohibiting the circulation of Hong Kong dollars and other currencies. However, the military currency was issued in great quantities, leading to significant devaluation.

Following Japan's surrender in August 1945, Hong Kong's population was reduced to just over 600,000 people, yet there were over 1.9 billion yen worth of military currency in circulation in Hong Kong. When Hong Kong was liberated on August 30th, the Hong Kong dollar was reinstated as the legal tender, rendering all Japanese military currency worthless.
